Questions with Answers

Who needs generalized problem solving?

Generalized problem solving has the potential to solve 'any' type of problem, therefore, any entity with a problem, lacking resources (primarily intellectual), could use The da Vinci Foundation as its means.

Why would a generalized think tank work better than one devoted to specific problem types/fields?

The complexity of a system that runs smoothly directly relates to its marketable potential. There are insights in fields seemingly unrelated, that will pertain directly to the solution to a problem. The da Vinci Foundation has great potential for breaking down communication barriers as well.

How many people should work for da Vinci Concept Foundation at any one time?

There are statistics showing that any one person can know only about 150 people at any given time. da Vinci Concept should only contain 1/2 or 1/3 of this number, so that every member can know well the other members. This ensures that even if The da Vinci Foundation uses a method of randomly drawing willing problem solvers from its company pool, every member will have some experience communicating with other members. The da Vinci Foundation's sister company, however, also privately traded, but owned by web members, which could possibly number in the tens or hundreds of thousands.

How should a problem solving team be formulated?

The current proposed method is to use the member or client to select a member of their choice, then subsequently each chosen member can also select a specific member, given that every time a specific choice is made a random individual is also added to the team.

How large should problem solving teams be?

The initial statement individual, the first chosen member, and the first random element should decide on the number of people needed to solve a given problem (a specific number of engineers based on statistical calculations of random choices should not influence their choice), although there may be cases where the number of individuals cannot be adequately estimated, in which case they should choose their lowest guess. A maximum value should be considered by these initial team members if this is the case.

How are good problems going to be sorted from bad (unsolvable) problems?

A sorting method must be developed where the problem staters sort and categorize the type of problem. Because of the potential for an extremely large demand, especially if web requests are considered, there must be a mechanism in place when The da Vinci Foundation starts for sorting through good and bad problems. A determination of good or bad is impossible to correctly institutionalize. Individual The da Vinci Foundation members, regardless of their openmindedness, will make assumptions that will fog their understanding of the potential of a given problem. Even the person asking the question, proposing the problem, given their excitement about their own idea, may not be able to determine whether or not their problem is good or bad.

Who owns The da Vinci Foundation?

Every The da Vinci Foundation member owns an equal share of the The da Vinci Foundation stock. It is a privately traded company.

Where do The da Vinci Foundation members work?

Anywhere

Will The da Vinci Foundation provide full time employment?

No. da Vinci Concept requires that members have other employment, or activities that should enable the individual to bring new information/insights into the problem solving strategies that The da Vinci Foundation uses.

Is The da Vinci Foundation non-profit?

The da Vinci Concept Foundation could easily solve problems at no company profit, although this is only considered when there is not a profit possible with the solution.

How does the foundation protect client intellectual property?

da Vinci Concept Foundation will create a secure classification system for shared information pertaining to any given problem. This information will only be accessible by those individuals directly working on the problem (and possibly coordinating entities owned or working for the foundation).

How does The da Vinci Foundation make money?

The da Vinci Foundation attempts to include in every 'successful' solution a means by which the solution will pay for itself and retain a profit.

Why doesn't The da Vinci Foundation charge for the assessment of a problem?

Not charging for problem assessment sets The da Vinci Foundation apart from any previously existing think tank structures. Charging clients for problem assessment would destroy the primary purpose of The da Vinci Foundation, that is, to act as an enabling means toward the solution of any problem. The low initial cost is one of the primary arguments in why The da Vinci Foundation will work as a true service business. The theoretical asymptotic demand curve that is discussed as on of The da Vinci Foundation's inherent properties (although only a thought experiment) is created out of this zero initial cost. Not charging clients at the time of a solution request, however, may both create new issues and solve others. In a way, The da Vinci Foundation may make its service look 'cheap,' and given the amount of resources proposed to be in the control of The da Vinci Foundation, no solution comes 'cheap', and no solution comes at no charge. On the other hand, not charging for solution assessment puts the members of The da Vinci Foundation on an equal standing with the client. The client has much to lose in the failure of their idea and time spent with The da Vinci Foundation team members, The da Vinci Foundation has much to lose in an unsuccessful solution, and the time spent attempting a successful one. It seems obvious that The da Vinci Foundation must have a very stringent, but non-dismissive method of assessing problems.
