Closed System Gunpowder Engine

I've thought a bit about the structural problems posed in designing a gunpowder engine, namely, that because gunpowder is a solid, it can not be injected into the standard engine like gasoline. That leads me to wonder, however, if there is no way that we could take the solid form of gunpowder and endow it with the qualities of, if not a liquid, at least a highly malleable and slippery material.

Is it possible to design a polymer that would coat individual molecules of Gunpowder, and burn away to nothing with the heat of a spark? Better yet, by compressing it enough, it might be possible to ignite the gunpowder without a spark, seeing as how it is a solid.

In order to meet emissions standards, the engine would have to be a closed system, and seeing how I am not exactly mechanically inclined, I wonder as to how to do this. Any suggestions?
