Open Source Project: Alternative Transportation
I propose an open source IP discussion and website dedicated to alternative transportation. This site would simply ask the open-ended question: What are our potential means of transport?
I propose this as a project for the soon to be fielded ipforge.org website, but should host numerous discussions and engineering how-to for all sorts of transportation means.
I think that we could tie this into both actual and practical methods, providing suggestions for means of transport and alternative transport between places through speculating and design of new means and articulation of transportation means that seem technologically far reaching.
A first crack taken from some notes of mine:
Alternative transportation company: Specializing in getting from here to here, cheaply, efficiently, quickly, and alternatively.

There should be addressed both practical means of travel and all of the ways that one can use each means, as well as potential development paths for current means. A means of achieving some of the science fiction travel mechanisms should be identified, looking at engineering method and mechanics.

- Physical feasibility
- Economic feasibility
- Usefullness
- Enjoyment
- Difficulty
- Safety factor
- Engineering timeline
- Market requirements
- Market value
- Capitol investment needed
- Some other orthogonal measures
- Engineering and technical
A site that focuses on a single open-ended question can act as a model for other open-ended questions. Doing this right the first time and fostering a worthwhile community of thinkers will allow us to re-apply the methods to address other questions.
