The Potential in Additional Dimensions - User-Computer Interaction

I have created this thread in the hope of illiciting discussion on where 3D user environments will lead, and how best these possiblities should be utilized. For example, should the GUI remain largely 2D with merely support for 3D objects? Or should the GUI be a 3-dimensional environment, such as a room, containing various 2D and 3D objects within? Given the latter, should the user interact with his/her computer in predominantly 3D manners; i.e. how would the user browse the web, via a 2D browser manifesting itself over or within the 3D environment or should the browser (as a means of exploring the vastness of the web) be completely rethought to conform to the capabilities of 3D worlds etc.?

Will expand further on this later, but in the meantime please do share with me your thoughts and ideas in these regards. --macrocosm Thu Dec 16 9:39:48 2004
